“Presidential Candidate Office” account opened for İmamoğlu
Access to the X account of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP's presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu was blocked.
After being detained on March 19 and arrested on March 23, İmamoğlu was trying to make his voice heard to citizens via his social media account. Citizens who wanted to access İmamoğlu’s account were met with the statement, “In accordance with legal request, access has been blocked for @ekrem_imamoglu within the borders of Turkey.”
After İmamoğlu's account was blocked, X released a statement. The statement said that they had to implement this decision because Turkey had notified them. The statement, which indicated that the decision was being appealed, said, "While we are implementing Turkey's decision regarding the account, we absolutely disagree with this decision and are appealing the decision. In the spirit of full transparency, we are sharing the court decision and our appeal against the decision that we have submitted to the court below. "
